Latin sits in a paradoxical position. On the one hand, a stripped-down Latin subset defines the model that underpins the DNS. On the other, “real” Latin usage spans hundreds of languages, with large inventories of diacritics, extended letters, and orthographic conventions that ASCII cannot express.
