Each year, we track the state of Internationalised Domain Names (IDNs) registrations, technical readiness, and what the industry thinks about adoption. Here are some of the key findings from this year:


  • There are at least 4.3 million IDN registrations globally, with the top 10 TLDs accounting for 76% of that volume.

  • Growth remains negative for most regions, though the pace of decline is slowing, the Americas was a notable exception, with most ccTLDs recording positive growth in 2025.

  • Public awareness of IDNs remains low across all regions, with no sign of improvement year on year.

  • Technical progress is the brightest spot with WHOIS and RDAP implementations improving and IDNA2008 adoption continues to edge forward.

  • Sentiment has shifted: fewer respondents expect IDN adoption to grow over the next five years compared to 2025

  • The report draws on registration data across 374 TLDs and a sentiment survey of 43 registry members from across Asia, Europe, and Latin America.
