May 21, 2024 – The IDN World Report 2024 has been published, providing an overview of the current status and trends in Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs). Key Findings:

  • IDN Availability: 85% of ccTLDs and 41% of gTLDs support IDNs. Support rates by region: Europe (88%), Asia (87%), Americas (68%).

  • Technical Features: Latin and Cyrillic scripts are the most common. 85% of ccTLDs use their own registration software. Only 25% support homoglyph bundling for security.

  • Registrations: There are approximately 4.4 million second-level IDNs globally, making up 1.2% of the domain name market. Major ccTLDs include .рф, .de, and .cn. Growth in IDN registrations is generally slow.
